Pacific Business News: Henk Rogers: Hawaii is the Energy Big Brother to Other Islands in the Pacific

Jun 11, 2015

Hawaii serial entrepreneur Henk Rogers believes that Hawaii is the energy big brother to the other islands in the Pacific, noting that it needs to show them the way to energy independence and help get them there.

Rogers was front-and-center during Hawaii Gov. David Ige’s bill signing this week, which included a bill to set a goal of the state achieving 100 percent renewable energy by 2045, the most ambitious goal by any state in the United States.

“When you look at all the other islands [in the Pacific], it’s all Polynesian,” the founder of the Honolulu-based renewable energy-focused nonprofit Blue Planet Foundation told PBN. “Yes, they have been combined with other nations, but we are still one people. The Polynesians are one people. We [should] solve our problems as one people.”
